COLLEGE ALL-STAR BAND CELEBRATES 5TH BIRTHDAY!

As each state convention passes, I look back at several wonderful accomplishments for the NBA-Wisconsin Chapter (NBA-WC).  Each year shows growth and continued collaboration among Wisconsin's band directors.  The NBA-WC is now stronger than ever and we thank all members for your continued support!  Several years ago, the idea of a college honors band was presented to me from the NBA-Wisconsin Chapter Board of Directors.  This was a big project and one that has transformed the NBA-WC by including upcoming music educators into our association.  It is now five years later and I am proud to say that the NBA-WC College All-Star Band is stronger than ever, and a major component to our state convention.  

Last year the National Band Association-Wisconsin Chapter was proud to have the 4th Annual College All-Star Band perform at our state convention.  Five wonderful conductors from around the state conducted the 2006 All-Star Band, which included Dr. Phillip Ostrander (UW-Eau Claire), Dr. Leigh-Ann Lethco (UW-Oshkosh), Dr. Andrew Mast (Lawrence University), Dr. Glenn C. Hayes (UW-Whitewater), and Ms. Kristin Bar (College Chapter representative for NBA-WC).  The band was comprised of nearly one hundred students from thirteen different Wisconsin colleges and universities.  The NBA-WC is extremely proud to have this kind of representation!  Our association strives to promote bands and this experience did just that.  All college students involved with this ensemble had a truly musical and educational experience.  It also allowed for future band directors to see what the National Band Association-Wisconsin Chapter is all about, and why we are the most active chapter the the country. 

All directors from Wisconsin colleges and universities are invited to participate in the 5th Annual College All0Star Band.  We encourage you to take this opportunity to share your students with NBA, and to promote your own university or college by having students represented.  We look forward to this performance and invite all members to enjoy this treat at our convention.  ~ Timothy Doleysh
